Welcome to 6th grade science! The following information concerning this class is provided for
your reference throughout the school year. This prospectus should be put into your binder in a
sheet protector.
Science Textbook: Project Based Inquiry Science
• Students will have access to a textbook in the classroom. Students will also have access
to an online edition of the book being used. The website is www.its-about-time.com. The
student log in is:
• Username: JMR-Science
• Password: Robinson431
• It is case sensitive.

• It is crucial that this website be checked often for important information regarding our
science class. Information such as homework, quiz dates and test dates will be posted
regularly.
Tutoring
• I will be available for tutoring from 7:15-7:45 AM on Tuesday mornings in room 626

• Earth Science – Ever Changing Earth
• Space Science – Astronomy
• Life Science – Ecology
How is my grade determined?
• 65% - Formal Assignments (test, comprehensive writing, projects)
• 35% - Informal Assignments (class work, homework, notebook checks, group work)
Grading Scale
• A = 93-100
• B = 85-92
• C = 77-84
• D = 70-76
• F = 69 and below
Test Corrections/Retests
• All students will make corrections for tests
• Retests may be taken only if the student scored lower than 84% on a test
• Retests may be taken during tutoring or AAP only.
• Retests may only raise the grade to an 84%
Make-Up Work Arrangements for completing the missed work must be made within 5 days of your
return to school
• Arrangements must include a schedule for complete of the work. STUDENTS must initiate
contact with the teacher.
• All lesson plans are posted on my webpage. These lessons should be accessed and PRINTED
at home by the student when they are absent.
• This lesson plan should be with the student when discussing their absence with the teacher.
• Make-up work is the student’s responsibility. Each student should have a class buddy that
they can depend on if they are absent to get notes etc.
What should I do if I am absent?
1. Check teacher’s website
2. Print lesson plans from the dates of your absence.
3. Place lesson plan in notebook on appropriate pages.
4. Complete warm up from lesson plan and be sure to have teacher check it for a grade.
5. Complete every assignment listed under the class work section and be sure to have
teacher check it for a grade.
6. Be sure to complete any notes, worksheets or labs missed by the date discussed with
your teacher.
7. Complete homework from lesson plan and be sure to have teacher check it for a grade.
8. Any work not completed and turned in by the assigned date will be counted as a 0.
Science Binder
• The science binder is organized like a book. Each page is assigned a number/date. At the
end of every unit, the papers from that unit are removed and filed in order to prepare
for the next unit. Binder checks will occur often throughout the year. It is the student’s
responsibility to make sure their binder is organized and ready for the binder check. During
the first semester binder checks are announced, but during second semester they
are unannounced. There is an example binder in our classroom that the students may use to
organize their binder.
Safety/Lab Procedures
• Students are expected to follow all directions and safety procedures outlined by the
teacher for lab activities. Any student who does not follow directions and procedures will
be removed from the activity and will receive a zero. A safety contract will be reviewed
and signed by each student and parent before a student will be allowed to conduct a lab
experiment.
